EchoLink Consejos para solucionar problemas
Troubleshooting EchoLink can be a very frustrating game. Here are a few tips that especially apply to Windows XP, using a broadband connection.
Port/Firewall Problems:
Go to EchoLink — Tools — Firewall/Router Test
If it says Pass, you are okay with ports. This is not the problem. Most of the time this usually is the problem. Remember–even after you have configured the port settings, the ports can come undone and have to be set again.
Timeout. This is usually a port problem. If you cannot connect to the EchoLink Test Server or any other operator, it is highly likely that you do not have the port settings right, or the firewall setting on your computer isn’t set right.
Get on EchoLink, then go to Tools. At the bottom of the Tools bar, you will see the Firewall/Router Test. This will tell if you have configured something wrong. Try this first before you do anything else, this should get you results.
Another great idea: Download the EchoLink Troubleshooter . Download this to your computer, in the My Documents Folder for example. Then run it after it is downloaded. This is a great tool to find your problem!
If a port setting isn’t right, you must go to the service page of your Internet Service Provider. If you’re not familiar with this, call your ISP and they will walk you through.
Setup — Portforwarding — Portforwarding Configuration –
This port is supposed to be the magic one that works.
Enable Port: 57972
Protocol: UDP and TCP
If the port 57972 works, that’s good. But, just in case there is trouble, enable these ports. These ports use to be the main ones until 57972 was suggested. If you don’t want anymore headaches, enable these ports also.
Enable Ports: 5198 and 5199
Protocol: UDP on both ports. Enable TCP on both ports.
Firewall Settings:
The firewall must be set on low regarding your Internet Service Provider settings. If your ports are working and you still have trouble, this could be the culprit.
Also make sure this has been done. Go to Control Panel. Then click on Windows Firewall. Then click on Exception. Make sure you do checkmark it where it says EchoLink; this will allow it to work.
Router Problems
Put the port numbers in the router settings.
Still Not Working:
EchoLink — Tools — Link Setup Wizard
If you are using an Interface in Sysop Mode, make sure Digital Mode Interface is checked (RIGblaster or similar), if this is the type of interface you are using. If this is not checked, EchoLink will not work.
Audio Trouble – Cannot Hear:
EchoLink — Tools – Adjust Sound Device — Playback
Make sure nothing is muted (and the volume is turned up). If it is checked, uncheck it. Also, make sure the microphone is not muted. The microphone mysteriously mutes itself sometimes.
Important New Tip: These settings will pertain to you if Realtek is your audio manager. First click on the Mixer tab. Under Realtek HD audio input, mute the stereo mix. In the 3D Audio Demo tab, select Manual – Vertical under Moving Path. Under the microphone settings, mute the Noise Supression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation.
Realtek Analog: (Automatically detects line in and line out.)
Realtek Connector Settings: Be sure to checkmark Mute Rear Panel Output. ***
Reminder: Go to Tools> Setup> Audio. Be sure to check or tick these 2 items: Check Auto Sample Rate Compensation, 300 Hz TX High-Pass Filter. This really does help.
Another reminder. Go to Tools> Link Setup Wizard. Go through this from time to time. Especially after you have not used EchoLink in a long time. This function seems to reactivate the system.
If you are using an interface, make sure the volume is turned up on your ham radio. Many times the volume is turned down and forgotten about.
Make sure the speakers are connected right. Make sure the interface connections are hooked up right. It is a common problem to cross the line in/line out wires into the jacks, on the back of the computer, concerning interface users.
Rand McNally World Map (Classic Edition World Wall Map) – Impressive large, colorful map! Looks fantastic in your office and ads a touch of class.
Still No Audio:
Make sure you have the right Sound Card. This is usually not a problem. Try the EchoLink Troubleshooter. A link is posted above to download this.

1I have my Echolink properly configured and I can connect to it with no problem. But why is it when I reboot my Echolink I cannot connect. It always says TIME OUT! Occassionally I can connect and quite a few times I cannot connect. Could you please tell me what seems to be the problem? Your assitance will be greatly appreciated. 73, Alex V. Libre W7AVL

2Could be a firewall issue on your ISP page, but I’ve also had to reset the ports, sometimes they will come undone. Would like to know the outcome. Thanks for the post. 73 de KI4KQD

4Hello N4LIO! I’m going to make a guess here; I’ll bet it has to do with your Vonage. I think I’ve heard other hams comment that Vonage is not friendly with EchoLink. This system may not allow EchoLink to pass through. 73 de KI4KQD.

12ok echolink sleuth’s, can you figure this out????
Echolink troubleshooting
As of 6/18/11 1134
Setup:
• Echolink v2.0.908 on both systems
• Windows XP on both systems
• Ross using Signalink USB interface and Kenwood TM731a dual band radio
• Dick using MFJ 1275 interface on Kenwood TR-7950 radio
Problem:
Remote users can’t talk out over internet node-to-node (Dick’s node to Ross’ node, or vice-versa) from remote user HT’s. Dick’s HT is heard over the internet from his node to Ross’ node when he tries to enter DTMF tones – Ross’ node radio keys up. We are not yet sure if the DTMF codes are actually being heard over Ross’ node radio, but he does key up Ross’ node. However, when Dick tries to speak over Echolink using his HT connected to his node, there is no audio detected at Ross’ node, and Ross’ node radio does not key up.
We think we have eliminated:
• Routers/modems – switched routers at Ross’ – no help
• Node radios – they receive and transmit as standalone
• Computers – problem exists on 3 different computers; 2 at Ross’, 1 at Dick’s
• Cabling – Ross’ side is Signalink OEM. Dick’s side keys his node transmitter
• Interfaces – Signalink verified to work as designed by discussion with tech. MFJ 1275 previously worked on another system
• Ports – ports tests pass on PFportchecker program and echolink firewall test passes. (echolink troubleshooter program alternately fails UDP 5198 or 5199 receive). Switched dsl modems/routers and confirmed setups. Ran them in DMZ mode also – no help. Proof: Dick can talk from his echolink computer over the internet to Ross’ node with no problem. If the ports were the problem, this would not be possible.
• Sysop settings – for the most part (see below)
What works:
• Dicks computer to over echolink to Ross’ node and out Ross’ frequency
• Dicks HT DTMF tones through Dick’s node over internet to Ross’ node keys Ross’ node transmitter
What doesn’t work:
• Dick’s HT spoken audio through Dick’s node to Ross’ node does NOT key Ross’ node radio
Possible causes:
• Sysop settings – RCV control
• Other echolink setup settings
Questions:
• Does Dick’s HT spoken audio through Dick’s node to Ross’ node appear on to be received on Ross’ echolink computer?
• Can Dick hear his HT audio on his echolink computer?
• Are Dick’s DTMF tones being heard on Ross’ node radio?

13Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification appeared to be at the net the simplest factor to have in mind of. I say to you, I definitely get irked even as folks think about worries that they just don’t know about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest as well as defined out the entire thing without having side effect , other folks can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks!

16A Ham radio friend of mine has a Compaq computer with the Windows XP operating system. EchoLink was downloaded and installed, but it has a problem. After he boots up the computer and he brings up EchoLink, uses it for a while then disconnects, it apparently continues running in the background. If he tries to bring it up again before either re-booting the computer or going to Task Manager and shutting down echolink.exe, instead he gets a message saying “EchoLink is already rrunning. Please switch to the running instance of EchoLink or shut it down” and EchoLink never loads up.
I tried uninstalling EchoLink, then re-installing it but it did tid the same thing all over again. Any ideas, thoughts or opinions?
tnx and 73

17Hello Roy! Sorry for the slow response. My back decided to go out again. Very painful indeed. I’m not quite sure about this problem with EchoLink. I never had this to happen. Do you talk on HF radio? What band(s) do you prefer? Thank you so much for the comment. Have a good day sir. de KI4KQD Roger

19Roger;
I wish to un-subscribe from this blog as I am calling it a day on trying to fix my friend’s problem with Echo Link. No matter what I try it keeps coming back to haunt me. I deleted the script files one at a time but each time it did no good. And I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a problem with his compuuter and not with Echo Link. Seems like it didn’t do what it is now doing before my friend took the computer somewhere local to him to have it serviced. And he can get someone else local to him to try and fix Echo Link.
Thanks anyway for the help and I’ll maybe catch you on low bands somewhere, even though I am very seldom on it any more.
Sincerely and best 73

20Thanks for the above it was REALLY helpful. However, unless I have missed it, my problem was not above.
I use Realtek & my problem was that the speakers were set to Quadrophonic & not stereo.
On Quadrophonic everything else worked & on Echolink, I could hear the beeps & tones, for example of a connection being made & cut. Just not the Audio from an Echolink contact. With the speakers set to Stereo I can now hear the Echolink audio & all the beeps & tones too.
But I would never have found the above, without your site, so thanks.

21Hello Alan:
Thanks for the fine comments and the helpful input. I’m glad you located the problem. EchoLink is such a wonderful mode of ham radio. I still think it’s ‘real radio’. I’m hoping to be more active on EchoLink in the near future. Maybe I’ll be fortunate enough to have a QSO with you. I monitor the HF bands sometimes. Hope you have a mild winter. P.S. I like the kite lifting the antenna deal. Interesting.

26Hi there,
After struggling with my hardware I managed to get echolonk working in repeater mode. So far so good you might say. The only problem is that only the number 3 in DTMF does not work. So I am unable to connect to stations who have a 3 in de node number. The 3 is getting OK through my tranceiver and the soundcard of my PC. I can even hear it very clearly in the playback when I use the echolink testserver. In the program a DTMF number is displayed in a field at the bottom of the screen. All numbers are correctly shown with the exception of number 3. What could be wrong. If you want to try it yourself connect me at PA3VOS-R

31I have a question regarding with echolink for iPhone 6, since the las IOS update it will not LOGIN unless is using the relay, but since they are not many relay server isimpossible to login.
I also have a private Proxy, and it work perfect with any computer even using with my iPhone HotSpot to connect to the proxy, but for some reason also the echolink App in the Iphone 6 it will not login with my proxy.
I believe it has to do with some problem with the Iphone 6 App and the compatiblity with the latest IOS update.
Anybody is having the same problem and know how to fix it, or I will have to wait till a new App version will come out with the Fix.
Thanks
