Skype On Telephony

It’s now official. You can use Skype on your iPhone. This began Tuesday, March 31, 2009. This is the latest buzz. And it’s red hot!

One choice is to download fring to your mobile, and then you are in business. You get: free talk, live chat, and interaction. This is via Wi-Fi.

“Using your handset′s internet connection, you can interact with friends on all your favourite social networks including Skype®, MSN Messenger®, Google Talk™, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, Yahoo!™ and AIM®. You can listen to music with your Last.fm friends, check out what each other are up to on Facebook, receive alerts of new Google Mail™ and tailor make your very own fring by adding more cool experiences from fring Add-ons™.”

Calling with Skype on your iPhone will work on Wi-Fi only, and will not work on the 3G Network. The quality is very good. Most of the Skype apps on your desktop are available on the iPhone.

This application is available in every country in which the iPhone is on sale and in which Apple has an iTunes Store — with the exception of Canada.

Skype will be available on Blackberry in May. Is Skype a threat to wireless carriers like AT&T?
