Victim of DTE: Wanda Scott tells the heartbreaking story of being separated from her father and a utility bill of $8,000

The Committe Against Utility Shutoffs (CAUS) gives a report about Walter Scott and his daughter Wanda Scott. Walter was forcefully removed from the home. During the previous year, in the month of August, DTE came to the house and dug up the gas line and removed the piping, which had heated the home. The reason for the shutoff was the Walter family had an overdue bill of $8,000.

DTE Energy is said to have dug the piping up deliberately in summer months, so that the Scott family would not qualify for the winter protection program. Therefore, there would be no heat subsequently, in the following winter months ahead.

Walter Scott the father, was 95 years of age at the time. Walter is a sufferer of Alzheimers Disease. Walter was removed from the house by the state of Michigan.

In January, the state of Michigan broke into Wanda Scott’s home and took away Walter Scott. They said she was neglectful of his health because she could not afford to heat her home, in effect criminalizing her for poverty.
