Which is best? Ethernet cable vs wireless. Wireless has become commonplace in homes across America. Is it really more efficient and is it faster?

I had put a desktop computer in another room, which is approximately 50 feet from the modem and wireless router. For the first year the wireless connection worked great. All of a sudden the desktop was catching the signal intermittently, and I was not a happy camper. I knew the signal strength wasn’t the problem because the iPod was getting a signal.

I was perplexed because the dropout might last for several days. It was futile to reset the modem or the router. I had found no solution to the problem — have wi-fi signal but cannot connect to the internet. I was unable to access web pages for some odd reason.

After running 50 ft of Cat5e, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the internet speed was twice as fast than it was with the wireless. The ethernet cable was much faster and no more dropouts. The ethernet cable is a better deal.

I will be keeping my wireless router, because other high tech gadgets require it. In fact, there are 4 places in the back of my router for ethernet cable hookups. I still have 2 left if I want to run more computers in other rooms.

So this is what I did. I hooked the ethernet cable to the back of my wireless router and plugged it in the desktop in the other room. I disabled the wireless connection and enabled the LAN connection. The computer had to be restarted. Then it worked like a charm.

I highly recommend to use ethernet cable in this type of circumstance. It will perform efficiently with little hassle and no dropouts like the wireless setup.
