The Number One Enemy Is Ignorance
Julian Assange is very critical of the media and he is heavily targeted by the U.S. government. Assange said also that the number one enemy to all of us is ignorance. And that relates to not understanding what is actually going on in the world. Who is responsible for promoting ignorance? Is it the media?
Assange said in a recent interview with RT:
“It really is my opinion that the media in general are so bad we have to question whether the world wouldn’t be better without them altogether. They’re so distorted to how the world actually is to the result is we see wars and we see corrupt governments continue on.”
“One of the hopeful things that I’ve discovered is that nearly every war that has started in the past fifty years has been the result of media lies. The media could have stopped it if they had searched deep enough, if they hadn’t reprinted government propaganda, they could have stopped it. What does that mean? That means basically populations don’t like wars, and populations have to be fooled into wars. Populations don’t willingly with open eyes go into a war. So if we have a good media environment, then we also have a peaceful environment.”
Julian Assange was asked how social media manipulate situations in the world:
“Facebook in particular is the most apalling spy machine that has ever been invented. Here we have the world’s most comprehensive database about people, their relationships, their names, their addresses, their locations, and their communications with each other; their relatives all sitting within the United States, all accessible to U.S. intelligence.”
“Facebook, Google, Yahoo, all these made in U.S. organizations have built in interfaces for U.S. intelligence. It’s not a matter of serving a subpoena. They have an interface that they have developed for U.S. intelligence to use.”
Assange further stated that certain newspapers (The Guardian and The New York Times) had reduced the news distributed to them by Wikileaks and it was completely against the agreement that was originally set up with them. This reduction is done to protect reputations and profits. That is the usual status quo.
“What happens in the west is that there is no border between state interests and commercial interests. The edges of the state as the result of privatization, are fuzzed and blurred out into the edges of companies.”
