Are you tired of paying the high cable bill? Have you had enough of the paid programming nightmare on satellite dish? You get hundreds of channels and yet nothing to watch? I feel your pain. Do you have a high speed internet connection? If the answer is yes, then you need Roku.
It is advisable to have 1.5 to 3mb of internet bandwidth to stream internet television, and the 3mb is the preferred choice. Roku offers streaming internet radio options as well. The remote control has a connection for headphones believe it or not.
I recently ordered the Roku 2 set top box and it arrived a few days ago. I am so impressed with Roku that I’m going to order more when the opportunity arises. For a spare room or bedroom, the Roku 2 is convenient. It’s a wireless device only, meaning that if you’ve got wi-fi, then you’re good to go.
Roku 3 offers an alternative ethernet cable connection, along with the standard wireless function.
The Roku 2 media player will work on the older style televisions as well as the newer flat-screens. The Roku 2 plugs into the TV set using the RCA plugs (red, white, yellow). It also has an HDMI slot.
If you want to stream online media and you have the flat-screen TV, then I would recommend the Roku 3 box for sure. But remember, Roku 3 will not work with the older televisions. It uses the HDMI cable only. All modern sets are equipped with the HDMI port.
The Roku 3 box is faster and the interface is more efficient than the previous edition. It’s better quality.
Here’s my experience with Roku 2 . I had it hooked up to my 32-inch flat-screen with the RCA cable (A/V cable) and the quality was great, even without HDTV connectivity. But I do want to receive the channels in HD quality, so I’ll have to purchase the HDMI cable. No problem.
I wanted to see what was available in the news category. I was delighted to surf on the many news channels that were available and most were free by the way. I also found some classic, old-fashioned horror movies. I watched The Last Man On Earth, starring Vincent Price. I have seen it before.
There are free and premium channels, such as Netflix and Hulu. The variety is there and no high-priced cable bill.
