Tropospheric Ducting Forecast

Spring and fall seem to be the time for optimal VHF conditions. As the temperature fluctuates, the VHF band conditions are favorable.

The ideal propagation characteristics are usually line-of-sight. Buildings, trees, and hills can obstruct the path of VHF transmissions. Normally VHF is used for local communication.

A phenomenon occurs, called tropospheric ducting, when conditions are right. What weather conditions have to exist?
Temperature inversion, change of air masses, and change in humidity, can create the right atmospheric conditions for ducting.

What is the forecast? The VHF (Very High Frequency) Propagation is what we’re after.
