One way to save money and get better gas mileage is to keep proper air pressure in your tires. Yes, this is trivial but tire maintenance is important. Keeping proper air pressure in tires can increase the life of tires. Under-inflation is usually the culprit.

For the commuter, low tire pressure means lower gas mileage. This also makes your vehicle handle worse, especially the tires in the front. You can even have a flat tire, and possibly a blowout, if you neglect to keep proper air pressure in your tires.

But tires are made different and some may hold way more than that.

As the seasons change, the air temperatures are going to change. This will cause the air temperature in your tires to change as well. The old science rule still remains, hotter air expands and colder air contracts. This goes for tires as well.

Although not critical, experts say you’ll get a more accurate reading before you leave the drive. This is due to the temperature of the tire. When you drive the car the tire itself will get hotter. The temperature will change the air pressure.

Lastly, get an accurate tire gauge. The cheaper ones are inaccurate. The most accurate tire gauges are the digital gauges that are handheld. This is a practical investment.
