Sony’s Daily Edition Vs Amazon’s Kindle DX
Amazon is being challenged with Sony’s Reader Daily Edition. The Reader Daily Edition will also be wireless, utilizing AT&T’s 3G network free of charge.
It is very hard to compete with a bookselling giant like Amazon that has 349,000+ e-books. Therefore, Sony will be trying out something new. With this reader users will be able to check books out from local libraries.
If you possess a library card, with the Daily Edition you will have access to the e-books at your library. But it’s uncertain how Sony will monetize this feature.
Also, with the Daily Edition, users will have access to Google’s Books. This is another plus. It’s all about free content.
Sony will offer books from its own store, as well as newspapers and magazines which have not yet been announced.
The Sony reader will come out in December, and will hit you for $399. This unit will have a 7 inch screen with Touchscreen access, and can be displayed in portrait or landscape mode. The Daily Edition is viewable in direct sunlight.
The reader can purchase books from the Sony Connect eBook store. It can display Adobe PDF’s, ePub format, personal documents, blogs, RSS newsfeeds, JPEGs, and Sony’s “BroadBand eBook” format.
