Twitter Worth A Billion But Generates No Revenue
Twitter Bird just received another $100 million of funding. That jacks the the bird’s value up to $1 billion. Not bad for a bird that is only 3 and a half years old. That’s something to tweet about.
According to Twitter Blog, here are the firms that are responsible for the $100 million: Insight Venture Partners, T. Rowe Price, Institutional Venture Partners, Spark Capital, Benchmark Capital, and Morgan Stanley.
Evan Williams, CEO of Twitter, stated: “Twitter’s journey has just begun and we are committed to building the best product, technology, and company possible. I’m proud of the team we’ve built so far and I’m confident in the future we’ll build together.”
A recent New York Times article reads that Twitter has roughly 50 million users, compared to Facebook, which has 300 million users.
A great amount of hype has been created about the Twitter Bubble or Twipocalypse, but the general public is probably not that concerned about it.
Twitter has absolutely proven itself to be a powerhouse when it comes to being social networking and micro-blogging services. Along with the popularity has come much criticism.
Could Twitter save someone’s life? Just ask James Karl Buck, a photojournalist, and was a student of the University of California Berkeley at the time of the incident. Twitter may prove to be very useful in emergencies, since it uses real time applications.
James Karl Buck, of Oakland, California, used Twitter to help get himself out of jail in Egypt. This probably saved his life. Here’s What Happened. He typed Arrested on his cell phone, using Twitter, and that was his ticket to freedom.
