Fourteen States Have Banned Texting While Driving

Do you text while you are driving? Don’t you think that it’s a dangerous habit? Many think it is dangerous, and at least 14 states are banning this habit. And this is attracting some controversy.

States with the text messaging ban by 2010: Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. (Also Washington, D.C.)

Recent studies have proven that it is 23 times more dangerous for truckers to text and drive. Multitasking in a car is 8 times more dangerous. Under these conditions, a crash is much more likely.

And get this, driving while talking on a cell phone is equivalent to being intoxicated with alcohol! The legal limit is .008 blood alcohol level. Do you want to meet this type of driver on your stretch of highway?

Texting and driving is such a risk that even the federal government could be getting in on the “banwagon”. Some Senators are seeking a ban  on texting and driving.

What does all this mean? It means that if your state doesn’t ban texting and driving, then that state could lose millions of dollars in federal funds.

Enforcing legislation would be another matter. One study showed that 1,340 out of 2000 teens have admitted to texting while driving. This is 67% of teen drivers! BBN (Bye, bye now)
