Stimulate The National Economy: Get Cash For Foreign Cars

Cash for clunkers information. Find a car dealer and trade in your clunker and get credit for $3500 or $4500.

Angela Merkel tried her “wreck rebate” plan. Now the United States and Britain are trying similar programs.

The “cash for clunker” program will cost American taxpayers at least 3 billion dollars before all is said and done. Has this plan been successful? That all depends on how you look at the outcome.

But there are several questions that pose real problems. Out of the top five cars that have been bought under this program, four have been foreign owned autos. Top five: Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Toyota Prius and the Toyota Camry.

Doesn’t the profit of these autos go to Japan? One could argue that many of foreign autos are made in America. But, didn’t we just bailout GM and Chrysler? And now we support foreign companies?

If we really wanted to help the environment and the economy, why not have incentives for electric cars or hybrids only? Why not buy American only?

And how are struggling unemployed citizens supposed to afford a car payment? They will probably keep the clunker they have, and can barely afford at the moment.

After car sales have been boosted, what happens when the money runs dry? This is borrowing and spending 101.

Why not give rebates on new computers? Or, maybe HDTV’s? What about washers and dryers? Or, perhaps refrigerators?

If it was a rebate on HDTV’s you’d be all over it!
