Project Tor Beneficial To Egyptians
Just recently Egypt officials ordered major internet companies to cease connection to the public. Prior to that, the internet had assisted crowds to express, congregate, and mobilize while protesting. Subsequently, several factors had allowed some users to access the internet on a limited basis.
Google recently aquired SayNow and is teaming up with Twitter to provide a means for Egyptians to communicate with others. People can go to twitter.com/speak2tweet to hear the messages.
The Tor Blog has reported that the number of users have skyrocketed as of late. The number of bridges around the world have increased remarkably. Bandwidth increased as well, because of donations by those that were concerned.
Using Tor can protect you from traffic analysis, which is one way of internet surveillance. Believe it or not you can be tracked on several levels: behavior, interests, location, and even more. What you are doing and saying can be disclosed.
Tor is free software and an open network that helps you defend against a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships.
Anyone interested in learning more about online anonymity and what can be done about it can visit the Tor Project website.
