Let’s go Wi-Fi. So you’ve joined your friends online and you are fluent on the PC. Wouldn’t it be nice to go wireless with your computer? For example, bring another computer into the den, bedroom, or playroom? For those unfamiliar, here’s how to to go wireless with your computer. This is just a basic approach.

Wireless Router
Your internet service provider gave you a modem with the package. In my case I have a DSL connection. To go wireless, you will need a wireless router. How about a very good wireless router — Medialink Wireless N Router – 802.11n – 150 Mbps – 2.4 Ghz – NEW Design w/ Internal Antenna. This has a limited 1-year warranty.

This router is the perfect solution for adding a wireless network to your home or business. It fully complies with wireless standards and is guaranteed to work with any manufacturer’s 2.4Ghz wireless adapter and most manufacturers’ DSL/Cable modems.

Medialink Wireless Routers are certified by Microsoft to be compatible with the following Operating Systems: Windows 2000, XP (32 and 64 Bit), Vista (32 and 64 Bit), 7 (32 and 64 Bit). It also supports Mac OSX and Linux.

If you have never hooked up a wireless router yourself, it is a breeze. You have a wizard guide that takes you right through the process. Other than that, you plug in a couple of wires. This is self-explanatory.

A wireless router will give one the capability to use another computer in any room of the house, and we call that going wireless. One can also use the wireless Apple products, such as iPod, iPad, or Mac.

What does your second computer need in order for it to work in another room? In the past, the consumer would get a wireless card installed in the computer, and this still works. But, you have to buy the card and either install it inside the computer yourself, or have a computer technician to do it for you. You’re looking at a small chunk of money and a little bit of aggravation.

Wireless Adapter
Here’s a cheaper and an easier solution. Just get a wireless USB adapter — Medialink – Wireless N USB Adapter – 802.11n – 150Mbps – 2.4ghz – Windows 2000 / 2003 / XP 32-Bit and 64-Bit / Vista 32-Bit and 64-Bit / Windows 7 32-Bit and 64-Bit Compatible. This takes the place of a wireless card.

Wireless Adapter Compatible With
This will allow you to go wireless with any PC or laptop with a USB port, 733MHz CPU, and 64MB Memory. This works with any brand 802.11g or 802.11n router using 2.4ghz wavelength. Windows 2000, 2003, XP 32-Bit/64-Bit, Vista 32-Bit/64-Bit, Windows 7 32-Bit/64-Bit. Although not heavily advertised, this adapter will work with a Macbook.

Wireless Adapter Not Compatible With
This will not work with Xbox 360, PS3, Blu-Ray Players, Roku Boxes, or any device that does not run an Operating System. Also will not work with Dual Band Routers that only broadcast N speeds on 5ghz wavelength.

The USB adapter picks up the signal that your wireless router sends out. Therefore it acts as an antenna, so to speak. This pretty much replaces the old wireless card that most are familiar with.

With the wireless USB adapter there is less hassle. Just plug it in and you’re wireless.
