Global Email System By Radio

Is it possible to send email messages via HF radio? They’ve had the technology available for over a decade. Wherever you go you can keep in touch with friends by email, even if you do not have access to a telephone or the internet. This is a blessing for ham operators that do not have internet access. Now they can send email to ham buddies via HF radio transmission. How can you do it?

You will need a computer and something like a RIGblaster interface, or a similar device. You’ll also need software such as WINMOR, via WINLINK. RMS Express is the preferred radio email client. Obviously, you’ll need a ham license. You should have that already.

There’s a book about the subject — HF Radio E-Mail for “Idi-Yachts”. The used version is cheaper.

You will be able to send attachments via email. Such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Here’s a video demo to help you out.

Here’s another video giving you a demo. You can hear the weird noises, like someone sending slow scan pictures. This ham operator did succeed in sending his message. His wireless message was sent using 50 watts of power. Excellent!
