Darren Rowse, the author of Problogger, has given some great tips on how to promote a blog, or webpage. These ideas are very useful if you’re interested in generating web traffic. And who isn’t?

As most bloggers already know, web traffic is everything. Google obviously captures the lion’s share of user web traffic. That being said, social media has increased growth in previous months.

Why has social media become such a phenomenon? Simply because it gives web users a voice. The public can interact and decide whether a certain product or brand is right for them. They can promote a certain product. This is very valuable knowledge for a marketer.

From Nielson:

Traffic to Facebook is up almost 200% over the last year, and Twitter has seen an increase of almost 1500%. Social Media is no longer just for techies or younger generations—it has become a mainstream phenomenon. Compared to a year ago, not only are more people visiting these sites, but they are also spending more time there—time spent per person is up 67% over last year.
